Bio

Farm boy from rural Minnesota.   Graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 1981 and served 10 years in the active Coast Guard and 12 more in the Coast Guard Reserves.  I am a patriot who served alongside all 5 uniformed services of the US, and love all things military and Americana.

I attended Navy Firefighting/Damage  Control school and served on 2 volunteer fire departments and a career department, finishing my 27-year firefighting career with a 10-year stint as the Fire Chief in Saint Paul, MN.

My wife, Sue, and I have been married since 1984, and have 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren.  We love the outdoors, camping, long-distance running and walking, and relaxing at our log cabin on the shores of Lake Superior.

I love old boats, old airplanes, and old cars.  I built a 19' sailboat that I plan to take on an epic voyage of discovery from Saint Paul down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico when I am "finally" retired in the next decade or so.

I am passionate about teaching the public fire safety and fire prevention.  Demonstrating how fast and effective fire sprinklers are and how incredibly fast and devastating fires can be using the NFSA side-by-side demonstrations is something I truly enjoy doing.

Please contact me for any NFSA questions or concerns, membership issues, or demonstration or training requests in the MN, IA, and WI Region.  Let me know how I can best support your daily operations, and thank you for your life-saving work!
