The International Residential Code (IRC) is used in all 50 states as the one- and two-family and townhouse construction code. Since 2009, fire sprinklers are required in all dwelling units covered by the IRC, however, some jurisdictions have opted to limit sprinkler protection in new construction. The IRC, when used with some developer options in the International Fire Code (IFC) can provide residential sprinkler protection in homes in areas without the mandate. This course reviews the fire sprinkler tradeups in the IRC, from the 2000 to 2021 edition as well as applicable options from the IFC.
